Karine Faden joined the Center for Speech and Language Disorders in September 2017 from GG+A, a philanthropy management consulting firm that helps nonprofits worldwide improve their fundraising strategy and impact. At GG+A, Karine served as Senior Vice President and Chief Client Officer, overseeing business development, marketing, and client engagement.
Prior to GG+A, Karine spent almost five years as Managing Director at United Airlines, first in the Legal Department and then in Finance. In her most recent role as Managing Director - Business/IT Resource Strategy, Karine reported to United’s CFO and formed a team that helped to streamline capital project execution, while improving engagement between various business divisions and IT. Previously Karine served as Managing Counsel - Regulatory, Antitrust & Competition, where she was responsible for all legal matters with the U.S. regulatory agencies, strategic and transactional counseling, and global antitrust compliance. In that role, she helped lead United to a series of strategic regulatory and legal victories in the U.S. and abroad, saving the company tens of millions of dollars in potential fines.
Before joining United, Karine practiced antitrust law in the Washington, D.C., office of the law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where she focused on aviation. At Freshfields, she served as second chair for Continental Airlines on its award-winning merger with United Airlines, and led ground-breaking international legal reviews of aviation joint ventures for Continental, United, Lufthansa, Air Canada, and All Nippon Airways.
Karine received her Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center, together with a Master's of Public Health from The Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health, and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Spanish from Amherst College. She is currently licensed to practice law in the state of New York, is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and serves on the Parent Student Board of Quest Academy in Palatine. Before attending law school, Karine worked as a Communications Writer at the Georgetown University Law Center, and a professional translator in Barcelona, Spain. She speaks fluent Spanish and Catalan.
In addition to her professional credentials, Karine is incredibly passionate about children and special education. She has served as an advocate for her own children, and understands firsthand the value of differentiated services and the impact they can have on the lives of children. Karine lives in Arlington Heights with her family.
Director of Clinical and Contract Services
Sara Belczak graduated from Northwestern University with a Master of Science in Communication Disorders and Sciences in June of 2012, following which she began her career at the Center for Speech and Language Disorders as a speech-language pathologist. Sara has gained a wide variety of experience while at the Center, providing comprehensive assessment and treatment for patients of all ages across multiple settings including clinic, elementary and high schools. She has provided services for a wide array of clients with various disorders including: Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Specific Language Impairments, Voice disorders, Stuttering, Down syndrome, and Auditory Processing Disorders. In addition, Sara has taught and overseen the CSLD’s specialized language to literacy and social communication programs.
In the summer of 2015, Sara took on the role as Clinic & Contract Supervisor allowing her to continue providing services in addition to mentoring, supervising, and training her fellow clinicians at CSLD. Sara has been able to travel to all of CSLD’s school contracts (20+ campuses) and both clinics to collaborate with her co-workers and insure CSLD’s high standard of excellence is consistent across all of our services.
Sara grew up in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. She currently lives in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. She loves attending sporting and alumni events with her friends & family at her undergraduate alma mater, University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign (Oskee Wow Wow ?). Sara is also a huge foodie and loves spending time in the kitchen and exploring all of great cuisine Chicago has to offer.
Clinical Supervisor, Speech Language Pathologist
Ciara Nally, M.A. CCC-SLP/L, earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in Speech and Hearing Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2012 and 2014 respectively. While in her master’s program, Ciara completed independent research on language acquisition and development from birth to 3 years of age. Additionally, Ciara completed placements in an Early Childhood program focusing on speech and language development as well as an internship at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, focusing in the areas of cleft lip/palate, fluency and apraxia.
Upon graduation, Ciara moved back home to the northwest suburbs and began working at the Center for Speech and Language Disorders. She has gained a wealth of knowledge working in and case managing the charter schools in Rockford as well as providing services at the Lombard clinic. She has worked to begin speech services at therapeutic day schools as well as supervised Teletherapy services for schools difficult to staff. She has gained experience evaluating a variety of disorders as well as developing comprehensive treatment plans for patients of all ages ranging from early childhood to adulthood. Ciara also has experience teaching Literacy and Social Programs through CSLD. She has provided services for clients with varying disorders including but not limited to; Hyperlexia, Apraxia of Speech, Fluency Disorders, Articulation disorders, Phonological disorders, Auditory Processing Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder, Specific Language Impairments and Literacy deficits. She is especially interested in Apraxia of Speech, Fluency and ASD.
Ciara maintains membership with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and maintains licensure with both the Illinois Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. In her free time, Ciara enjoys volunteering and traveling. Her favorite places to visit are Australia and Ireland as they are where her family resides. When at home, she enjoys volunteering at local stables providing speech therapy for children while they interact with horses and other animals. Her greatest passion is her dog, Bentley, and training him to be a therapy dog for future clients!
